1st Homecare Dumfries has been awarded a Grade 5 (Very Good) across all areas in its most recent unannounced inspection by the Care Inspectorate, carried out over three days in June 2025.
The service, which provides care at home and housing support to older people and adults with a wide range of needs in Dumfries and surrounding areas, was praised for delivering compassionate, person-centred care with a strong focus on dignity, respect and wellbeing.
Inspectors noted that staff built “meaningful relationships with people based on warmth, respect and compassion” and were clearly committed to promoting independence and improving outcomes for those they support.
Feedback from people using the service and their families was overwhelmingly positive. One person receiving support shared, “I look forward to visits, the staff know how to have a laugh and a joke which cheers me up.” A relative commented, “The service cares about people, they go above and beyond to help.”
The report highlighted consistent staffing, strong communication, and good engagement with health professionals as key strengths of the service. Staff were described as motivated, well-trained and respectful, with robust recruitment and induction processes in place to ensure high standards of care.
The service was also commended for its handling of care planning, medication, and quality assurance, as well as its responsiveness to past improvement recommendations.
